Barbara joined Tompkins Wake in 2023 as a Senior Associate in our Environment & Resource Management team. With more than 20 years’ experience practicing law, marked by several recent appearances in the Court of Appeal and Supreme Court, Barbara offers her clients strategic, pragmatic advice to ensure the best outcomes. She is an experienced facilitator with specialist knowledge in environmental law and local government law with a background in litigation and mediation.

Barbara has a Masters degree in Law with Honours and completed a Bachelor degree in Viticulture and Wine Production in 2018.

Barbara is passionate about community development, advocacy, and organisational change. She has taken up several opportunities to support the growth of others and the law in her spare time including holding roles as a Teaching Fellow for Faculty of Law, Waikato University, previously as a Committee Member of the New Zealand Law Society Climate Change Committee and presently as a National Committee Member of the Resource Management Law Association and Committee Member for the New Zealand Law Society Environmental Law Committee.

Additionally, Barbara is a certified Commissioner Chair under the Resource Management Act 1991 (Making Good Decisions), sitting as Chairperson in Policy and Plan Change processes and consent applications.
