Tompkins Wake is the lead legal provider to WEL Networks on all aspects of its ultrafast broadband strategy. Achievements by WEL within a 12 month period include negotiations with the Government to establish the partnership between WEL and Crown Fibre Holdings, the $202 million contract with Transfield for the design, rollout and maintenance of the fibre optic network, the contract with the key technology provider to the network, Huawei, and the roll-in of the partially community-owned fibre network company Velocity.

The construction of the fibre network commenced mid-2011 and within 5 years construction is due to be completed for the greater Hamilton, Tauranga, New Plymouth and Wanganui areas. We are proud to be associated with these significant achievements of WEL Networks, particularly as the economic value created by the initiative will ultimately be for the benefit of the greater Hamilton community.
